My Story

As a dedicated professional committed to advancing public health through education and laboratory training, I bring over two decades of diverse experience in business development, project management, and customer service. My journey has seen a significant transition into the realm of public health, driven by a passion for addressing social determinants that affect both education and health outcomes.

My career trajectory took a pivotal turn between 2016 and 2017 when I completed rigorous programs in microscopy, histotechnology, and genomics at Merritt College. This academic pursuit culminated in enriching internships at esteemed institutions like the Gladstone Institutes and Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, San Francisco. These experiences not only honed my technical skills but also instilled in me a deep appreciation for the intersection of research and education.

Currently serving as a program director and faculty member in the Merritt Biosciences Department, alongside my role as a research associate at the Molecular Imaging Center at UC Berkeley, I am passionately involved in nurturing the next generation of laboratory professionals. My focus lies in empowering talented students from diverse backgrounds, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in laboratory careers offering livable wages. Moreover, I am deeply committed to guiding them through their higher education journey, recognizing education as a fundamental determinant of health and well-being.

Throughout my career, I have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to public health initiatives. Whether it's implementing food security programs for underserved communities, serving as a patient navigator at the Charlotte Maxwell Clinic, or providing re-entry assistance to incarcerated individuals at San Quentin State Prison, my commitment to improving health equity remains steadfast. Additionally, my experiences managing affordable housing for vulnerable populations and teaching English to marginalized groups globally have enriched my understanding of the complex socio-economic factors influencing health outcomes.

In recognition of my contributions to public health, I have been honored with prestigious awards such as the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Career Grant and the Trudy Larson Public Health Scholarship Award. These accolades serve as a testament to my dedication to creating positive change in communities.

In summary, my multifaceted background spanning business development, education, and public health positions me as a dynamic professional committed to fostering healthier, more equitable societies through education, advocacy, workforce development, and community engagement. I look forward to continuing my journey of impact and service in the pursuit of better health outcomes for all.
